Masters Programmes

Masters Programmes

The Mathematics Department offers four different two-year Masters programmes in Mathematics:

  • Mathematics International
  • Economathematics
  • Mathematics
  • Technomathematics

The main differences between the four programmes are the possible and required minor (nonmathematical) subjects. Mathematics International is the Master degree course which is especially designed for international students with a pure mathematical Bachelor degree (so no minor subject) or German students who will spend at least one semester of their Master programme at a partner university abroad.

Already with their application, students choose between one of the following study specializations:

  • Algebra, Geometry and Computer Algebra
  • Analysis and Stochastics
  • Financial Mathematics and Statistics
  • Industrial Mathematics: Modelling and Scientific Computing
  • Optimization

Every student has to collect 120 - 132 credit points whereof six credits belong to two seminars and 30 credits to the Master's thesis written in the last semester. Depending on the chosen study programme, the remaining credit points must be earned from lectures of the following categories:

Mathematics International

Specialization 36-40 cp
Pure Mathematics 18-21 cp
Applied Mathematics 24-27 cp
Nonmathematical subjects 6-8 cp

Economathematics

Specialization 30-32 cp
General Mathematics 18-21 cp
Economics 18-21 cp
Computer Science 18-21 cp

Mathematics

Specialization 30-32 cp
Pure Mathematics 18-21 cp
Applied Mathematics 18-21 cp
Minor subjects 18-21 cp

Possible minor subjects are Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Physics.

Technomathematics

Specialization 30-32 cp
General Mathematics 18-21 cp
Computer Science 18-21 cp
Minor subjects 18-21 cp

Possible minor subjects are Physics, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
